Today the Philoptochos at St. Spyridon continues to maintain its National obligations as well as completing many local charitable works. The Philoptochos hosts numerous events for the community throughout the year such as the community’s Vasilopita celebration and hosting the coffee hour on the feast day of their patron saints Cosmas and Damianos. Local organizations supported by Philoptochos include: Child and Family Services, United Way, Lucy’s Hearth, Feed a Friend, Annual Philoptochos Scholarship to a graduating high school senior member of the church, assisting with the church’s soup kitchen, implementation of a Sunshine Fund for those members of the church who may be ill, homebound, or experiencing other unfortunate circumstances, and other needy organizations or outreach efforts as brought before the members. In addition to the National obligations, Philoptochos supports St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Philoxenia House, Trinity Children, and the Cypress Children’s Fund.
